Event date:
Sun, 02/18/2024 - 10:00am

Lead RC: George Doyle (Rotag)

Rear RC: Glen Post (Scoop)

History, not a mystery: Are those swastikas on the building?

In January we made our plans for a bright new year. Now, in February, we will take some time to reflect on the past with two beautiful historic areas of our great state. Road Captain Rotag, assisted by Scoop, has planned a great route for our Sunday, February 18th ride with KSU at 10AM from Bien Mur. The ride will be 104 miles with a 20-minute gas stop in Belen at about 42 miles.

Then we travel together farther down the road to the Quarai Ruins State Monument where we will be the guests for a tour of the ruins and some insight into the history of the area. We will spend 30-45 minutes at the ruins. There is a visitor center

and restrooms at the parking lot, and picnic areas on-site for those who would prefer to have a picnic instead of eating at the restaurant.

We plan to arrive at our lunch stop about 1:30pm. Mountainair is the home of the Shaffer Hotel & Restaurant where we will learn a bit of trivia while we wait for our meal to be freshly prepared. Has anyone else wondered why there are, what looks like, swastikas in the artwork there? We will get the answer to that and more while we are there.
