Harley Ride Planner Link for May 3

We have a beautiful 245-mile trip planned for the Silver City overnight. We’ll have 160 miles of interstate with stops for gas/bathrooms in Lemitar and then a gas, bathroom, and lunch stop at the largest gas station in Truth or Consequences. There is indoor seating and outdoor picnic tables, and you will have choices of bringing your own lunch or purchasing food at Subway, Del Taco, or the gas station.

We’ll then take El Camino Real 187 South for 13 miles and then the fun begins! We’ll head West on SR 152 the Geronimo Trail Scenic Byway through Hillsboro and then on into the Gila National forest and Kingston, an old mining town which at one time had 22 Saloons, one church and a brothel located on, of course, Virtue Street. From there we’ll start navigating the most technical portion of the ride about twenty miles of tight switchbacks and dramatic elevation change. We’ll have a bathroom break at the top of Emory Pass, the highest paved pass in Southern NM, at 8,230 feet.

From there we will continue to our lodging, the historic Murray Hotel, a model of Art Deco design. This hotel has great parking and is in a perfect location in Downtown Silver City a few hundred feet from Toad Creek Brewery and Distillery which has excellent food, beverages and large seating areas. We have a group reservation at 4:00pm on Friday, May 3 in the patio area.

A few hundred feet further you’ll find the entrance to The Big Ditch Park, which winds its way through the heart of Silver City. It may look like a well-planned use of land to allow water to flow naturally through the center of the town. While it is that, its development came about not because of the original town plan. The Big Ditch Park became reality because of devastating floods that transformed Main Street into a gully.
