Turquoise Trail Skills Event
This is not meant to be a contest, just a chance to sharpen your riding skills.
On August 13, the Chapter will be hosting a 2 hour skills practice for our members. As a former riding coach, I found that my demos were fun for me and trust me, I did a lot of them and enjoyed them immensely! Repetition of our skills are not usually practiced in normal rides. These excercises we will be doing can be practiced on any empty lot, be it your church lot, local school lot, or any store lot as long as your away from cages. I for one do an in-line weave whenever I can and one of the places I do it mostly is on Rodeo Road near Los Amigos restaurant while heading for Wicked West. There's 5 manhole lids spaces apart that I avoid hitting by weaving around them. I get some weird looks for the cage bound, but it's just something I do frequently.
U-Turns are very much a necessary skill to have. At the Riding Academy we used a box that was the width of a 2 lane paved road. Everytime I leave TT-HD and I ride by the MSF range and see it empty, I ride in there and use the lines to practice the very skills I taught. I don't have cones to throw out, but since I rode it so often, I can do it without cones.
All in all, we need to practice our skills whenever possible, whether it be on the street, a parking lot, or any place that's paved.
